The winds of change are blowing through Kyankwanzi District, as presidential hopeful Robert Kasibante, leader of the National Progressive Party (NPP), embarks on a campaign focused on the plight of displaced residents and unresolved community grievances.
Kasibante’s message has resonated with locals who feel forgotten and exploited, as he pledges to be their voice at the national level.
During a recent campaign rally, Kasibante engaged with residents whose lives have been disrupted by forced evictions, particularly in areas linked to forestry operations.
Some recounted tragic losses of life and the inability to carry out basic agricultural activities such as grazing livestock or cultivating land.
The discussions revealed a multi-faceted crisis, including dilapidated road infrastructure that limits economic activity, inadequate educational facilities, and a lack of financial support for smallholder farmers, leaving communities vulnerable and struggling to sustain livelihoods.
“You have suffered enough,” Kasibante told the gathered residents. “If elected, my priority will be to protect you first. Your land, your lives, and your dignity will be my paramount concern. We will ensure that justice prevails and that those responsible for your suffering are held accountable.”
Kasibante positioned himself not just as a politician seeking votes, but as a defender of the vulnerable, promising a shift in national priorities to place ordinary citizens at the forefront of governance.
He also issued a stern warning to the Electoral Commission, urging it to maintain transparency and cooperation with all candidates.
Kasibante expressed concern over the security of ballot boxes, warning of potential irregularities that could compromise the integrity of the upcoming elections.
“There might be a coordinated effort to rig the election through these ballot boxes,” he said, emphasizing that a free and fair election is essential to reflecting the true will of the people.
Kasibante’s campaign in Kyankwanzi has reinforced his image as a candidate attuned to grassroots struggles.
By promising to address land disputes, improve infrastructure, support local economies, and safeguard electoral integrity, he positions himself as a formidable contender ahead of Uganda’s national elections, offering hope to communities long waiting for a champion.
